Welcome to the Art Room

Dear Family and Friends of Waite Park Community School,

Welcome to a wonderful year in the art room.  My name is Jennifer Hubert, I have been teaching art in Minneapolis for the past 16 years.  This is my seventh year at Waite Park.  I have previously taught at Sheridan, Jenny Lind, and Shingle Creek in Minneapolis, and in Cleveland, Ohio for a year, where I taught reading and math.  Besides teaching art, I am very passionate about science, and I love to integrate several other subjects into my art curriculum.

I have two children of my own, Braden is 12 1/2 and starting seventh grade, and Kaelin is 10 1/2 and is starting fifth grade.  These two keep me very busy outside of school.  Luckily my husband Shawn is a huge help.

I feel fortunate to be able to teach art as a specialist. We have had some exciting art opportunities lately.  This summer a former 5th grade class and I participated in an opening to celebrate a permanent piece of art hanging at the new Viking stadium.  If you are lucky enough to visit the stadium, look for our piece on the walls of the main corridor. We also had two Waite Park students win 3rd place ribbons at the State Fair this summer. Waite Park students are amazing!!

We will start an observational drawing as our first project. In a few weeks ask your child to tell you what science concept we are working on in art.  In keeping with tradition, I will host two student teachers again this year. If your child talks about another teacher in art, please know that I have not disappeared, we are just teaching a future art teacher the tricks of the trade.

I am so excited for another great year at Waite Park and look forward to continuing the relationships that were started in previous years.  I know I have a lot to keep me busy, but I am never too busy to hear from you.  Please feel free to call, email, or come in.

Artists heard the call

U.S. Bank Stadium includes art by about 50 professionals.

“Each project has its own legs,” Speca-Ventura said. “We put out a call for artists in Minnesota, and more than 1,100 responded. In San Francisco, we got 300, so this is phenomenal. Usually in sports, you get comic or commercial art, but the variety and quality of the art here is amazing.”...

There’s also a painting by kids from Waite Park Community School in Minneapolis, plus pop-style portraits of 18 sports heroes (including Herb Brooks and Lindsey Vonn) by eighth-graders from Grand Rapids, Minn.
